About the Biobased Information System

The Biobased Information SystemTM (BIS) was started in 1999 by a group of individuals organized as AgroTech Communications, Inc. who were convinced that the bioeconomy would undergo a revolution and that information access would be key. Since that time the BIS has supplied information in a variety of web-based methods to thousands of individuals around the world. Clients have included: European Commission, Bioproducts Canada, National Biodiesel Board, and the USDA, among others.

The BIS has served as a key component of projects including the Tennessee Biomass Information Network, education initiatives at Tennessee State University, and the Sun Grant Initiative. The BIS has received funding from U.S. Department of Energy and USDA.

In 2006, the BIS received additional investment and new partners from BioDimensions and FBA Consulting. This infusion of new capital and expertise is allowing for a more robust system, more information, and a host of new services and expanded content, to be introduced throughout 2007.

The BIS is the most comprehensive source for business-related information on biofuels, new crops, biobased products, and industrial biotechnology in the United States. This unique site provides unparalleled resources for the entire Biobased economy.
